Actor Corey Mylchreest of "Queen Charlotte" claims that the writers never provided him with a legitimate diagnosis for the king

The actor who portrays young King George, Corey Mylchreest, told Variety that the writers did not diagnose the character, but he developed his own theory while consulting a specialist and director Tom Verica.

We don't diagnose him on the show, but as an actor, I had to make a choice. Otherwise, the work will be generic and maybe offensive. After doing extensive study and understanding about his early life and how that may have affected certain events, I had a good sense of what it was, said Mylchreest. As an actor, it's a gift because it's so difficult, yet all it gives you is permission to give it your best.

"If you don't commit entirely," he said, "then you're practically going to affront the honour of the character—both the fictional one that Shonda wrote and the real one that I fell in love with throughout my research. It is a man who is coping with the guilt and self-hatred that follow from that condition.
